The Heavy Medal Ball is now an ArthurMurrayLive tradition. Every February, we take a "Heavy Metal" approach to the Arthur Murray Graduation event - The Medal Ball. As we set our sights towards the event in February 2016, we decided to take a look back at how it began.
The Blog Announcement
On February 3rd, not long after Arthurmurraylive.com had been launched, there was a short blog post with the following announcement:The Backstory
At that time, Hayward, Livermore, and Redwood City had been studio "siblings" for a little over a year. The goal was to create a unified event that created a common culture for all three schools. In addition, the event, held in February and August, needed its own identity.
The Atmosphere
With a Heavy Metal theme, complete with hair band wigs and ripped jeans, the graduation atmosphere of the Medal Ball is more Fun than Formal. The tradition is set, and it has grown.
Since 2010
The area as a whole has grown, by more than double, since 2010. That may not all be due to this one event, but the culture of unity, shared tradition, and a shared language across all seven studios have been essential to the growth of the Arthur Murray Live group of studios.
Looking Foward
This February, 2016, the event is staged around Bon Jovi's hit classic "Livin On A Prayer". In addition to the original three locations, Walnut Creek, Millbrae, Fremont, and San Francisco will also be in attendance. A special trophy will be passed on for the best team "Flash Formation" routine to the hit song, and, come February, there will be heavy celebration, heavy graduations, and a Heavy Medal Ball for a long time to come.
