Arthur Murray Prom was a Social Dance Event for the Ages
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA - Nestled on the San Francisco Bay, the Arthur Murray Bay Area studios assembled to recreate a High School prom for adult social dance students.
Calling it a raging success would be an incredible understatement.
Arthur Murray Junior Prom Highlights
This event, the Gold Night Out, gives students from all the local studios a chance to dance with each other outside of the studio. With "High School" as the theme for the six week Spring Festival, engineering this event as a Time Machine to redo a High School Prom created quite a lot of buzz.
It finished as one of the largest events of its kind this area has seen. Arthur Murray Hayward student, Lauralee Barnhill, summed it up best, "It was the best prom I've ever been to... and I've been to four".
The Music
Featuring prom music from every era, there was music from Frank Sinatra to MC Hammer, the Four Tops to Sir Mix Alot. It's safe to say that there was something for everyone. The Venue
Held in a beautiful tent adjacent to a golf course at the Metropolitan Golf Links, with sunset views of the Bay, this was a night no one will soon forget. The draped ceiling, and stringed lights, created a backdrop that looked like an A-list wedding reception, or the greatest Prom in Beverly Hills.
Needless to say, it was gorgeous.
Yes, there couldn't be a prom without prom pictures, so students and teachers took a break from the action on the tented dance floor to strike a pose. This was one of our favorites, courtesy of Arthur Murray Livermore.
The Dancing
Great social dancing can turn any affair into a dance party. Things like Merengue Lines, Conga Lines, and an occasional Soul Train Line are what turn a dance party into an Arthur Murray Party. One singular metric has been used for years to determine the quality of such a party:
Foggy windows.
Without going into too much scientific detail, increased dance activity can produce the body heat necessary to fog up the windows. When this happens, Arthur Murray teachers celebrate. The windows at this prom fogged up within 30 minutes.
