Dance Teacher Training Weekend at Arthur Murray Hayward

Arthur Murray students aren't the only ones who get an inspiring dance camp. This weekend was all about the teachers.

HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA - Arthur Murray Hayward played host to over 150 Arthur Murray professionals from Northern California and Nevada on July 9th and 10th.  With featured speakers Bobby Gonzalez and Tonia Kosovich, the ballroom dance teachers took in great information on dancing, teaching, and communications skills.

Participating Schools

Arthur Murray teachers, executives, and franchisees from Reno, Folsom, Carmichael, Stockton, Livermore, Walnut Creek, Hayward, Redwood City, San Francisco, Santa Rose, Millbrae, San Jose, and Los Gatos were all in attendance. In addition to the training, there was also time set aside on each day to highlight some of the competing professionals from each location.

Local Presenters

Juan and Cari Jo Garcia each gave training sessions to the staff on the nuances of dance technique and instruction.  In a small conference room, Chris and Daisey Lynam worked on staff hiring and development with the franchisees.

Featured Trainer:  Tonia Kosovich

Over the weekend, Tonia shared tips, training, and technique going deep into her dance history. From dances like Quickstep, Professional Image in a competition, to a dance style that is new to Arthur Murray, but not to Miss Kosovich.

Arthur Murray International just recently announced the introduction of the New Vogue Syllabus. This is an Australian form of ballroom dancing that uses elements from both Social and Competitive dance styles in a variety of dances.  New Vogue was the dance style that Tonia, and her brother Nick, both danced as kids back in Australia.  This training session was exciting for the weekend, and this style is a fantastic addition ot the Arthur Murray syllabus.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the New Vogue

To cap off Day 1, Tonia shared her Dance Journey. How things began for her, challenges she faced, pivotal training she's had, and what joining the Arthur Murray family has done for her.  Needless to say, she had a captive audience during this candid look at her road to success.

Featured Trainer:  Bobby Gonzalez

Bobby is no stranger to the staff and students in Northern California, having worked as a teacher or manager in the Hayward, Carmichael, and San Jose studios - he has seen, and been a big part of, the growth in the area.

Bobby held great training sessions with a heavy emphasis on Timing and Rhythm in the latin dances, teaching sessions to keep technique less complicated, and it just wouldn't be a Bobby Gonzalez training seminar without nightclub Salsa.

On Day 2 Bobby shared his heartfelt story of driving his Grandfather to his dance lessons at Arthur Murray in Ohio.  Then, before long, they offered him a job while he was still in high school.  From there Bobby shared his circuitous route to his role today as a traveling consultant, where he racks up more frequent flier miles than most humans.  With his extensive work in the Bay Area, Bobby has had a direct impact on the majority of the instructors, managers, and franchisees in the area - and it showed.  As the last session after a weekend of dance training, with tired legs, and filled minds, the entire audience hung on every word of his wonderful story.
