Joey Sena: The New Partner in Arthur Murray Livermore

He's been an instructor, Supervisor, New Student Counselor, and an Arthur Murray All Star, but Joey Sena is adding a new title to his resume:  Partner.

After more than a decade of work, with numerous accolades and achievements, Joey Sena has been added as a junior partner in the ownership of the Arthur Murray Livermore location.

His move to management began in 2010 when he left the Hayward location as a teacher, and joined Livermore as a New Student Counselor.

The former college baseball player took a chance on a dance job listing as an alternative to working in retail, and since 2006 - he's never looked back.

Professional Reactions

Karen Prado, Supervisor in Arthur Murray Walnut Creek, also helped train and develop Joey as a teacher in Arthur Murray Hayward, had this reaction to the news, "I was literally overcome with emotion!  I remember Joey as a brand new teacher.  He was the most enthusiastic one in training class."

"I didn't even teach the class but I could tell he was going to be great even from watching from the outside.  Then I got to work with him in Hayward and he was definitely a teacher I could count on for FUN lessons, energy and enthusiasm."

Something else that can be counted on is a large outpouring of support for Joey.

"He has helped two staff members develop into executives and continues to be a driving force for Livermore. Not only is he deserving of the title, he is someone whom I've looked up to since the beginning of my career. I think that if I could be half the executive that Joey is, then I'm doing all right" says Evan Boyer, a fellow executive and Arthur Murray All Star.

"I am so happy for Joey", says Redwood City Supervisor Alex Doan.  He and Joey worked as instructors together in Hayward.

"He has always been a great and positive force in the Arthur Murray dance culture, and he is so deserving of becoming a co-franchisee in Livermore. He is perfect for that job because he is one of the most determined individuals I know. His commitment to excellence in everything he does should continue to drive the Livermore for years to come."

That determination has shown up in Joey's resume on more than one occasion.

The All Star Tournament

The Arthur Murray All Star Tournament is a skills challenge for every segment of professionals in the industry around the world.  Joey just happens to be one of the most decorated competitors in the event's history.  "Now I sound old...but, I know since 2011, I've made it to the finals 3 times:  2011, 2013, and 2015. We won it two of those times, and took 3rd in 2013... and it still stings."

Add 2016 to that list of wins.

Now I sound old...but, I know since 2011, I've made it to the finals 3 times: 2011, 2013, and 2015. We won it two of those times, and took 3rd in 2013... and it still stings.

Call it a sting, call it determination, Joey, now as a co-franchisee, will leave the All Star competition as a competitor to become one of the judges, but a judge that has gone to the World Championships four times, and won 75% of the time.

Staff Development

Creating an environment for staff to thrive is critical for any management position in any industry. One of the clearest indicators of this is for a manager to transpose their achievements and reproduce them in others.

As mentioned by Evan Boyer, Joey has managed to develop two of the instructors in Livermore to management positions:  Eva Love in San Francisco, and William Dailey in Livermore

In addition to that, Livermore instructors Rene Guerrero and Brigitte Claure are part of the Arthur Murray Live Leadership program.

From the Top

"I have seen Joey from his first interview, to his first lesson, to his first day as an executive.  Every step of the way he's had a smile on his face, was a joy to train, and has such a special place in our hearts" says co-owner, Daisey Lynam.  "Chris and I are so excited, not just by this promotion, but for the man Joey has become to get to this point."

For those that have met Joey, it would be hard not to cheer for him.  People that have a passion for what they do, and who they work with, exhibit a type of energy that would be impossible to produce if it weren't genuine.  That passion, that zeal, that energy is what endears people to Joey, and make this achievement that much more special.

Karen Prado may have encapsulated that sentiment perfectly, "He's always had a passion for this business and I'm so proud of him.  Awe man!  I'm gettin' all choked up again!"
