Your Ballroom Dancing Beverage Menu
Sometimes choosing what dances to add to your dance program can be a lot like ordering a drink at a bar, or more like, ordering your first ever drink at a bar!
It can be overwhelming deciding what to get.
Do you just order what your friends are drinking, ask the bartender, or just dive in and try something you've never heard of? Luckily we are here to help. Let's take a look at your favorite "danceable drinks".
Vodka Cran
The classic Vodka and Cranberry. This tends to be a drink you start with when you are young and keep drinking through your formative drinking years.
A great starter drink. It's fun, it's light, and it's easy.
Vodka Cram is a lot like Swing Dancing. It's a wonderful way to get into a new world. Just as a lot of newly legal bar goers will start with a Vodka Cran, a lot of new dancers will start with a swing. It's a great way to get a taste for dancing, while listening to modern music at a hip new place. Great for all ages, swing dancing is an amazing intro to your new-found love - ballroom dancing.
Rum & Coke
Rum and coke is a staple for bar goers the world around. You can buy it anywhere, it tastes good and is easy to make at home. A lot like Cha-Cha, the Rum and Coke is a classic. As far as the dance is concerned, it's got versatility, universal enjoyment, and any dancer knows that Cha-Cha is a must have on any social dancing night out.
Chardonnay:
This drink makes for beautiful pairings of food, venue, and good times with great friends. An elegant taste, that only gets better with the passage of time. You can feel comfortable ordering it at a dinner, in a bar, or in a ballroom. A drink of tradition dating back as far as the very grapes it comes from.
Waltz is well known as the mother of all dances. A dance of tradition, elegance, and beauty, the grace and poise of the waltz is reminiscent of the feel and flavours left behind by a fine wine. Waltz can be done comfortably with anyone from newcomers to advanced dancers (or drinkers). So feel free to add this dance, and drink, to your menu.
Scotch
Nothing says taste like a finely aged scotch. Although, in the Scotch enthusiast community, there is much debate about the "proper" way to enjoy the noblest of drinks. Some say neat, some say on the rocks, and some say that just the smallest drop of water will bring out its natural flavor. Famously a drink of class, for gentlemen of note.
Foxtrot is a lot like a fine glass of scotch.
Some like to dance it a little more formal, and some like to dance it with a little more jazz. You can wear a tail suit in a well adorned ballroom, or just dance in your slacks at the local community center. One thing is for sure, no matter what style or timing you are dancing on, Foxtrot is always an excellent choice.
Martini
No Thought Gifts
The Martini is often related to Sex and the City, Apple-tini day drinking, and fluorescent coloured liquid in a flamboyant looking glass. However, there was a time that the Martini was seen with a bit more gravitas, the drink of a gentleman, the drink of the one and only James Bond. The infamous line "shaken not stirred" - to be read exclusively in Sean Connery's voice - reminds us of a time when the Martini was king, and makes me think of the most dangerous of dances, the Tango.
The dance of an international man of mystery, the Tango is a dance of passion, fire, and romance. Nothing says, "would you like to dance?" like a well-dressed man or lady drinking a masterfully crafted Martini, or dancing a masterfully crafted Tango.
Beer
Country 2 Step.... need I say more?
Red Wine
Red wine and romance go together like roses and, well, romance. Along with Red wine and roses, Rumba should be on the top of your list of romance staples. Picture yourself at your anniversary dinner. A beautiful private reservation in the best restaurant in town, a single rose in the vase on the middle of the table, and a violin accompanied by a pianist playing your song. This is the moment, you can set down your glass of wine and get up on the floor, dancing a slow passionate cheek to cheek rumba. The true dance of romance, Rumba is a must have for any date night.
